Character Role Analysis

Wiglaf

In his final confrontation, Beowulf's only loyal follower is Wiglaf, a young Geat warrior who stands by Beowulf and encourages him during his battle with the dragon. Wiglaf proves himself to be steadfast and courageous, and we get the sense that Beowulf couldn't have defeated the dragon without his help. After Beowulf's death, Wiglaf is the one who lives to tell the tale and to make sure that Beowulf's fame lives on.
