Beauty and the Beast Scene 2 Summary

Scary Castle Is Scary

  • Maurice is about as good at reading maps as Christopher Columbus and decides to take a shortcut into the scariest bit of haunted forest in sight. Bad things happen in these kinds of forests.
  • Wolves pop in to up the ante and Maurice's horse, Philippe, exits stage right, leaving poor Maurice to wander about in terror.
  • Luckily, he stumbles upon a terrifying, dark castle that no one seems to remember even existing.
  • When Maurice manages to open the door, he's greeted by a talking candelabra, Lumiere (voiced by Jerry Orbach), and a grumpy mantle clock, Cogsworth (voiced by David Ogden Stiers).
  • Lumiere directs Maurice to the Beast's study while Cogsworth's mother-hen objections echo through the halls.
  • The Beast enters the room; clearly the last 10 years of solitude have done wonders for both his bad attitude and hygiene.
  • The Beast throws a temper tantrum and makes the totally logical choice to imprison his charming guest.
