• Tobias tries to break up a fight that happens between the factions and the factionless, but he fails to do so before Edward is killed.
• Tobias has to watch his mom mourn Edward, whom she seems to love more than her own son.
• When the Allegiant give Tobias the opportunity to leave the city, he jumps at it. He hates it there.
• After breaking Tris's brother out of prison, Tobias leaves the city. He gets shot along the way, but it's just a graze, and he's fine.
• Things are going well at the Bureau, where Tobias and company end up outside the city. That is, things are going great until Tobias finds out he isn't divergent… he's "genetically damaged." Ouch.
• So Tobias gets swept into a plan concocted by Nita, a lab tech, to release some memory serum so that everyone forgets this genetic damage nonsense.
• During the raid, an explosion goes off and injures Uriah. Tobias is really upset about that.
• Tobias also finds out that Nita duped him. She really wanted death serum. (Whatever happened to all that happy serum?)
• After the raid is foiled by Tris, she gets mad at Tobias, and he mopes around a lot.
• Eventually, Tobias agrees to go back to the city. See, the Bureau is going to release memory serum on them, and they want to inoculate their friends. Tobias also wants to apologize to Uriah's family.
• Tobias does apologize, and he also convinces Evelyn to stop being a crazy power-monger and just be a nice mom. Aww.
• Back at the Bureau, Tris foils the whole memory serum plot. Oh, and she dies.
• Unable to deal with this, Tobias almost drinks memory serum, but Christina stops him.
• Tobias mopes around for two and a half years before spreading Tris's ashes over the city while zip-lining down from the Hancock Building.
• Tobias and Christina are platonic BFFs now, and they agree to live looking for the positive, non-dead things in life.
