Shakespeare Words

Shakespearean, not stirred.

If Shakespeare wrote it, we've Shmooped it.

Gloomy

Popularized in Henry VI Part 1

But darkness and the gloomy shade of death

Shakespeare's fellow playwright Christopher Marlowe used the word gloomy to talk about a dreary person, while Big W.S. went for the word when talking about nature, life, and death.

P.S. This is another case where Shakespeare changed the part of speech of a word to create a totally new one (gloomy started off as a verb).
