Source: The Postman Always Rings Twice

Speaker: Frank Chambers

With my brains and your looks, we could go places.

Context

This line is spoken by Frank Chambers (played by John Garfield) in the film The Postman Always Rings Twice, directed by Tay Garnett (1946).

The postman might always ring twice, but the UPS or FedEx guy doesn't ring at all. He just leaves our boxes on the porch where anybody can take them. Then, when they do get stolen, the thief brings them back because the boxes have been sitting outside in the rain all day, without plastic, getting soggy, and everything inside is ruined. Ruined we tell you!

(*deep breaths*)

The Postman Always Rings Twice is about a man and a woman plotting to murder her husband (probably after he left their TV out in the rain). The woman, Marge, is played by the beautiful Lana Turner. The man, Frank Chambers, is played by the not-as-beautiful Frank Chambers, hence the famous line from him to her, "With my brains and your looks, we could go places."

Where you've heard it

You've heard this if someone has formed a classic hot woman, not-as-hot man duo (see any TV sitcom from the past two decades: Everybody Loves Raymond, According to Jim, King of Queens, etc.).

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

This quote isn't too pretentious, but spoiler alert: the couple in the film don't go very far.
