Where are you going in those Keds?
Context
This line was sung by Charlie and Ray (played by Christopher Abbott and Alex Karpovsky) in the episode "Hannah's Diary" of Girls, written by Lena Dunham (2012- ).
One of the first big moments of Girls season 1 is when Marnie (played by Allison Williams) breaks up with her longtime boyfriend, Charlie, because she's bored. In the time-honored tradition of musicians from Rod Stewart to Taylor Swift, he's composed a breakup song with bandmate Ray, who happens to be the best character in the show. Their band is called Questionable Goods, and the lyrics involve Keds.
However, this song quickly goes from a "Pumped Up Kicks" knockoff to a straight up revenge song when Charlie starts singing lyrics from Marnie's housemate Hannah's diary about their relationship. It's safe to say that they're not flattering, but Marnie runs after him anyway.
The relationship dynamics in this show are pretty messed up, but Keds are a solid brand of canvas shoes, so whatever.
Where you've heard it
Your friend might use this line if they wants to know what's going on in your life and is into canvas footwear, but not Converse.
Pretentious Factor
If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.
Well, where are you going in those Keds?
