This line is from the song "The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)" by Ylvis (2013).

Norwegian comedy duo Ylvis became known outside of Norway when their song and video "The Fox" went viral. It asked a question that always has been on our minds, even though we didn't realize it: "What does the fox say?"

When we were just tiny Shmooplets, our childhood See 'n Say told us what the dog says, what the duck says, and what the fish says, but we already knew all that. We weren't stupid. Woof. Quack. Blub. We wanted to know what the fox says. Ylvis wondered the same thing, singing, "there's a sound that no one knows."

"What does the fox say?" is the greatest existential mystery of this millennium, the "How many licks does it take to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop" of our generation.

Ylvis speculates that the fox might say "Wa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pow!" or "Fraka-kaka-kaka-kaka-kow!" 

But Ylvis doesn't know for sure, and neither do we.

Where you've heard it

You heard it straight from the fox's mouth, or at least from the guy-in-a-fox suit in the official music video, which, a year after its release, had almost half a billion views. That's billion with a B, y'all.
