"Blessed are the peacemakers."

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Context

This line is written by Matthew in Matthew 5:9.

This is one of the opening volleys in the all-out doctrinal assault that is Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. This particular verse just lets us all know that God loves peacemakers. A lot.

Where you've heard it

You might hear this when you're fighting with your siblings. Not to be confused with "Blessed are the pacemakers," which you'll hear in a lot of cardiac health facilities.

This is such a famous line that it also gets riffed on a lot. Our favorite? "Stressed are the cheesemakers."

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Only nuns should be allowed to say this in regular conversation.
