Nuclear Hazards Clause
Categories: Regulations
If you just watched that new docudrama about the meltdown at Chernobyl, or have been reading conspiracy blogs about the Fukushima disaster, or you just lie awake at night worried about an unrestrained nuclear fallout, then you'd better get out your insurance agreement and check the fine print. It might have a nuclear hazards clause.
This stipulation says that an insurance company isn't liable for any damage caused by nuclear accidents. Radiation or nuclear plant meltdowns are your problem. It's one of a series of potential fine-print exclusions that insurance agreements sometimes include. Hurricanes and terrorist attacks represent other common examples.
So if a terrorist blows up a dirty bomb, which sparks a flash hurricane that then wrecks your house...well, again, better check that fine print.
