Chip-And-PIN Card

Categories: Tech, Banking

Take out your wallet. Withdraw either a credit card or a debit card. Do you see a little chip on the front of the card? If so, you have what is known as a Chip-and-PIN card.

This chip has personal data embedded inside it that confirms the user of the card is, uh...you...by matching up a Personal Identification Number (PIN) during use. These chips are far more secure than the traditional magnetic strip that remains on credit cards, but has been effectively replaced by this new technology.

When you use a Chip-and-PIN card, a digital signature accompanies a non-reuseable transaction code that is singular to each purchase.
