Certified Financial Planner - CFP
Categories: Education, Regulations, Trusts and Estates, Incorporation
A certified financial planner is someone who advises individuals regarding their overall financial situation. She helps with stuff like estate planning, taxes, investments in stocks, bonds, art, coins, and other crap.
Planners charge for their brain-rental in a few different ways: they might charge an hourly or monthly fee to just give you general advice or to manage your holdings...or they might recommend (and manage) specific stocks, bonds, or mutual funds, and get paid a percentage of the assets they manage for you.
To become a certified financial planner, you'll need to go through and complete a CFP education program, pass the CFP exam, and comply with whatever your state's additional requirements are. Like...maybe Montana also expects you to be able to juggle knives. We're not sure. We've never been there.
