Broadcasters Liability Insurance
A way for the talking heads on the various airwaves (TV, radio, web-based media outlets) to protect themselves from lawsuits and penalties.
We at Shmoop would never suggest that Katy Perry is a talentless banshee who rode the wave of juvenile male stupidity to stardom by recording “I Kissed a Girl,” and then mercilessly stole back-up dancers away from Taylor Swift. However, if Tucker Carlson were to suggest that during an appearance on FOX & Friends, it is quite likely that that Fox Broadcasting Company would be sued for defamation of character by the overrated songstress and/or fined by the FCC if he used certain vulgar verbiage to describe her. At that point, Fox’s broadcasters liability insurance would likely prove valuable.
